If you followed the last post and booted the BeagleBoard successfully, congratulations! This post is irrelevant to you. However, if you followed all the instructions and still failed, this is the post you’re looking for.

Scenario 1:
Build parameter: systemd-gnome-image
Symptom:
Halt at random point after kernel is loaded.
Solution:
Haven’t found yet.

Scenario 2.:
Build parameter: console-image
Symptom:
After successfully loaded the kernel, user cannot login using default "root". The error message: "cannot make/remove an entry for the specified session"
Solution:
The problem is caused by incompatibility of legacy System V initialization scripts and SystemD.
There are 2 fixes to this problem. Apply either of both will work.
Fix 1:
edit /etc/pam.d/common-session and comment out "session required       pam_systemd.so".

Fix 2:
Delete /etc/rcS.d/S39alsa-state
